I have been married for 29 years, with four children. I am an active member of my community, and have volunteered with various charitable organizations. My outreach began through my time in University and while studying at the seminary. I have felt a call to support families in the poorest part of the world and I am excited to join a group of friends with the same passion. I am at a time in my life where I can devote the knowledge, skills and abilities I have gained with my extensive background in insurance and regulatory industries for the benefit of families struggling to survive.
I have been working in a non-profit organization for over 37 years with a focus on children and youth that have developmental disabilities. I also sit on several committees such as the Langley Special Needs Advisory Committee. I volunteer my time by by visiting prisoners as part of the Vancouver Dioceses Catholic Charities Justice Services. I am a musician, husband and father of four.
I have been involved in turkey farming for over 30 years and together with my wife have continued to grow the family farm that my father started in 1979. Through this time I was elected to the BC Turkey Association (chairman for 2 years) and the BC Turkey Marketing Board (Director for 16 years, currently Vice Chairman).
The people of Burkina Faso have a special place in my heart because of my family connection. I went to Burkina with my Father, Frank Burm, to visit my uncle Père Willy Burm. Through this experience I saw the need of the burkinabé people and I am thankful for the opportunity to help carry on the legacy of my family.
Oom Sjef has inspired me to become a part of HELP BURKINA FASO CANADA and support the good work that will help the people in Burkina.
